Tin Dollhouse

Since the subject of dollhouses has come up here before, here's one just like mine. This is from eBay. I was really tempted to bid on it, but have no idea where I'd put it. And it ended up going for much more than I would've wanted to pay. I had a full set of plastic furniture, of course, from Marx and Renwall. I think the house was by Marx, but I'm too lazy to look it up. At any rate, the house, like much of my childhood toys, was passed on to younger kids of my parents' friends.

  1. Shelly, that one's a beauty! Doll Houses were my thing too. As I mentioned yesterday, I adored mine. It was almost hypnotic.

And my parents too often made me give my toys away to younger relatives or friends. That drove me mad. It's hard parting with something so meaningful just because you've grown on in years.

  2. Do you have any dollhouses now, Chelly? They're one of my hobbies, nice wood ones made from kits (I put together one house and some roomboxes) with mostly artisan-crafted furnishings and accessories.

  3. Chelly: I used to go to the Little Dollhouse Company in Toronto. Have you been there?

  4. Shelly: Unfortunately I don't. But after seeing so many on eBay and hearing about yours, I'm getting the itch. I've often thought about it.

MJ: I never even knew such a place existed (having lived under a rock). I'm getting excited now!

  5. I have to warn you, Chelly, dollhouse miniatures is a very addictive hobby. ;) I got a friend to drive me to a miniatures show and now she's completely hooked. She got a house on eBay and is redoing it. She's even electrified it.

  6. Shelly: Oh my goodness, that just makes me want to get one even more. I didn't know you could electrify things!

  7. Oh, yeah, Chelly. Both my big dollhouses and my "loft apartment building" are electrified. Little lamps that light up... so cozy. ;)
