July 1st

Ah, July 1st: hot dog filled picnics, folks wearing their red and white best, fireworks poppin' about...oh and yes it's Canada’s birthday.

Every first of July brings back sweet memories. As toddlers, my brother and I innocently thought Canada was the building in front of our window. It was tall and wide and filled with interesting people we didn’t know, so naturally it had to be Canada.

Thus, for two little immigrant children, it seemed quite natural to step out onto the balcony and heartily wish the building opposite a “happy birthday” on Canada Day. We later learned Canada extended here, there and everywhere--even outside and inside, as long as you cared. So whether you’re a hoser or not, have a good one.

  1. Happy Canada day to you too. Hope you had a good one.
Love the post, especially the last part. :D

  2. Thank you so much, hope you had a good one too. :)
