Christmas Eve on Sesame Street

Keep Christmas with you
All through the year,
When Christmas is over,
You can keep it near.
Think of this Christmas day
When Christmas is far away.

I'd be amiss, if I neglected to write about that PBS classic, Christmas Eve on Sesame Street (1978). I saw the special when I was in first grade and was truly enthralled by it. It's not surprising, those lovable Muppets who like dear friends were more than welcome in our home during the holiday season. Perhaps it was simply the three charming storylines (and the many side stories) that spoke to my sensibilities. No one gets kids like the folks at Sesame Street.

In the special, Big Bird takes center stage in a harrowing emotional quest to uncover the logistics of Santa's ability to maneuver down chimneys on Christmas Eve (and the resulting impact on gift getting).

Speaking of emotional journeys, Bert and Ernie undergo trials and tribulations whilst discovering the art of buying presents with little or no money. Their saga is handkerchief worthy, believe me.

Last but not least is Cookie Monster and his many attempts to request cookies from Santa. If only his increasingly shocking cookie-addiction wouldn't get in the way of normal monster functioning.

The special was bliss (especially the soundtrack). Thankfully, someone uploaded it onto YouTube. So go back and enjoy!

Part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4, part 5, part 6, part 7.
