This is the first time that I've ever heard of this show.Did you watch it often? What other type of characters were on it? The giraffe is cute. I liked the furniture in the castle, it makes me wish that I had something like this to play with when I was a kid. Can't wait to see your other posts.
Hi Lara: The Friendly Giant was a popular Canadian children's program that aired on CBC (TV network) from 1958 through to 1985. I watched it when I was really young. I only remember the giant and the giraffe more than anything and those wee chairs. But most of all I remember the theme song. It's magical. :)
I was born in 1961 and remember the Friendly Giant as far back as I can think. We lived in Buffalo and watched a lot of Canadian broadcasts. The Giant was on the air long enough for my children to see him. I hear the Giant in my head when I re-arrange furniture ("and a rocking chair for someone who likes to rock...")and that boot! "Look up, way up". What a great show! It was intelligent and quirky and the cats had a jazz ensemble and it wasn't at all like the mindless childrens'programming today. Oh, I miss the Friendly Giant!
"Everything I write comes from my childhood in one way or another. I am forever drawing on the sense of mystery and wonder and possibility that pervaded that time of my life." — Kate DiCamillo
"Do you know," Peter asked "why swallows build in the eaves of houses? It is to listen to the stories."—Peter Pan (James Barrie)
